New Introductions
for 2009
CURIOUS ORCHID (S. Chapman) SDB ML 14" Rosy violet washed on violet-beige ground. White veining around light violet beard. Interesting patterns and mix of colours . Quite unique and has drawn a lot of attention in the garden. Parentage unknown ....................................$15.00
BLACK LIGHTNING SDB M 14.5" A gorgeous and hardy ruffled black iris with a contrasting violet beard. It has four flowers per stalk and remains in bloom for a long time. It has put up extra flower stalks in July, like its pod parent Ruby Eruption, but not enough for me to be sure it will rebloom regularly. Some more southerly growers will need to try this and let us know if it is a rebloomer. A far better grower then other black SDB that have been tried here. Quickly forms clumps. It appears to have four plicata genes, is spite of it’s solid black colour. Slightly sweet fragrance. 02-043-1:(Ruby Eruption X 91-064-4:( Chubby Cheeks x 87-32-09:(Velvet Caper x Michael Paul))).... $20.00

CONUNDRUM SDB M 12" A wild mix of colours from these great two parents. A light olive green streaked rim colour on both standards and falls. Centre of standards are heavily splashed purple with some darker markings near edge. Falls have a purple streaked rim inside the olive-green rim, with a few odd dots on centre white area. Wide flowers with slight ruffling. Beard is white with yellow tipps on beard hairs. 01-24-1:(Ruby Eruption X Summoned Spirit) ..... $15.00
LOOKOUT SUNSHINE SDB EM 12" A wide horizontal flaring flower with lots of substance. A bright light yellow with darker spot that has olive veining in spot area. Lots of small ruffles and just a touch of lace. A real spot of bright colour in the garden.Typical Chapman hardiness.
98-B47A:(Summoned Spirit X unknown) ........ $15.00
ERAMOSA CLOUD DRIFTER MTB M-L 20" A very delicately marked light violet stitching on white ground. I have been crossing seedlings from I. Variegata regina together trying to get the stitching on the standards, as well as on the falls, as in so many MTB cultivars. This has the stitching in a very delicate colour. Although a bit on short side, this plant has 10-12 flowers on two branches and spur. Most sockets have 2-3 flowers and terminal often has 4. It remains in bloom for a long time. 00-137-2 Parentage lost, but involves a number of seedlings with I.variegata regina in parentage ........$15.00
FRECKLE’S SISTER MTB M 20" Winner of best Seedling at Median Convention 2007 Full sib to Eramosa Freckles. Standards are light tan freckles violet. Falls are heavily freckled and dotted violet-purple, less so around beard. Beard is white, yellow in throat. 00-255-A: (Welch's Reward x I. variegata reginae) X sib ........... $15.00
ERAMOSA RIDGE TB M 42" Excellent bud count and branching on this super hardy plicata. There are a lot of people complaining about plicatas that are tender and rot easily. Complain no more. Not only is this plant hardy, it increases rapidly, and would appear to have a bad taste for iris borers. Standards are near solid royal-purple, and falls have a wide rim of royal-purple. With some doting and streaking inside white centre. Violet-purple beards. Being heavily used in plicata breeding to work towards hardy luminatas and glaciatas.96-X-48- parentage unknown .....$40.00
PLUM RINGER TB ML 30" Bright colours on this seedling from the popular German Gold Medal winner ‘Sargent Preston’. Yellow standards with a hint of plum purple at base. Falls are violet with contrasting plum-brown 3/8" ring on outer edge. Well liked in garden. Violet-purple beards tipped brown on inner portion.98-17-20 Sargent Preston X unidentified seedling ..$40.00
